Shortly after I got married, it became clear to me that my relationship with money and finance needed to change. No longer a bachelor, I realized that I needed to step up my game and I quickly became a student of family finance. I even earned an MBA with a focus on leadership and evidence-based investing. My wife and I eventually got rid of all our debt, put away as much money as we could for retirement, and began saving for our first house.
Then, we had a baby.
I’ll never, ever forget the first night we took Hudson home. We were up all night; my wife and I couldn’t believe they let us leave the hospital, all by ourselves, to take care of this tiny, fragile human. We kept looking at each other, with the hope that the other knew what to do.
Becoming a father completely shifted my sense of purpose and responsibility. I reflected on how little financial literacy I had most of my life, and how far I’d come; I’m now an expert in family finance and investment management. I created Warner Brown Financial to help other parents incorporate all the best financial practices into their game plan, so they can spend more time focused on family experiences.
